Web Site / Database Case Study – Nebraska Indian Online One Stop
Website: www.nioos.net &
www.indiancenterinc.org
Description: WhettStone has developed case management software
for the Nebraska Indian Online One Stop Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program,
a United States Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration Program.
The portal services Native Americans looking for Employment Assistance and allows
NIOOS case managers and administrators to use database driven backend tools. The
system has a SQL database backend storing applicant information and reporting on
persons in the program.
Application Functionality:
General visitors use the site for Job Searches, Employment Assistance and general
career, education and employment information. Using the online application individuals
can apply for the Employment Assistance program. Data is captured in a SQL database
and NIOOS is notified of the application.
NIOOS can determine if the individual is eligible for the program based on the information
collected. A case manager is assigned to the individual once they are accepted into
the program. The system tracks details on the individual’s profile, documents of
native origin, services they are eligible for, work history and employment goals.
Data from the database is pulled to generate resumes for individuals and reporting
for the Case Manager and the NIOOS program.
To date, the software developed for NIOOS is being explored by other Native American
Organizations as it has made NIOOS more efficient in their day to day operations
of servicing over 90 counties in State of Nebraska with a very small staff of case
managers. The US Department of Labor has also expressed interest in the product
due to its use of technology where there was a need.
WhettStone has been an active part of NIOOS and the Lincoln Nebraska Indian Center
by providing technology advice and implementation. We were also active in building
the Indian Center website and hosting a regional WIA conference in the fall of 2008.
